We are like dwarves perched on the shoulders of giants. (Bernard of Chartres)
smartTomo exploits some of the best technologies available to make a responsive product that is up to the task.
Qt is a free and open-source widget toolkit for creating graphical user interfaces as well as cross-platform applications that run on various software and hardware platforms with little or no change in the underlying codebase while still being a native application with native capabilities and speed (Wikipedia). Qt gives everything you need for your entire software development life cycle. Qt is the fastest and smartest way to produce industry-leading software that users love. We use Qt for the SmartTomo user interface and the Qt development tools for the whole product development process.
VTK – The Visualization Toolkit is an open-source, freely available software system for 3D computer graphics, modeling, image processing, volume rendering, scientific visualization, and 2D plotting. It supports a wide variety of visualization algorithms and advanced modeling techniques, and it takes advantage of both threaded and distributed memory parallel processing for speed and scalability, respectively. (Schroeder, Will; Martin, Ken; Lorensen, Bill (2006), The Visualization Toolkit (4th ed.), Kitware, ISBN978-1-930934-19-1)
Vtk is used to display the tomographic profile with all the features to make it clear and explanatory. Vtk is also used for some 2D plots.
Liquid-dsp is a free and open-source signal processing library for software-defined radios written in C. SmartTomo exploits this library to implements features as noise reduction, filter and AGC.
SmartTomo uses these libraries within the limits of their licenses.
